Whorlton Lido 4 miles south Barnard Castle

A developed recreation area on a fine stretch of the River Tees with miniature railway, children's corner, 9 hole putting green, refreshments and a picnic area. From Barnard castle involves trip across the single lane, wooden suspension bridge - an experience by itself - Day fishing permits are available. £2 p.p. entrance under 3s free.

Pleasant riverside site operated by Derwentside District Council. Woodland walk, plenty of space for children to play and refurbished play area featuring exciting play equipment. Visitor Information and shop

From its early beginnings simply as a picnic field next to a fine stretch of the river Tees, Whorlton Lido has now developed into something much more. It now boasts a miniature railway, children's corner, 9 hole putting green, refreshments and a picnic area. The river remains the main attraction with the limestone rock carving a natural paddling pool. However, toddlers should not be left unattended as there is also a deep area of the river at the bottom of a waterfall drop. Whorlton is the sort of place where if you go once you will find yourself going several times. £2 entrance for both Adults and Children with under 3s free. Recommended
