Go Karting in
Sunderland
Many of the top
Formula One drivers started in this sport; Michael Schumacher, David
Coulthard and Jenson Button amongst them. Some maintain their own tracks
for practice purposes.
You can drive with Karting North East at Warden Law Kart Club. They also
run Quad bikes, and a Multi Activity event involving buggies,
hovercrafts, fork lifts, archery, laser clays, even mechanical diggers.
Karting North East
began building the first circuit at Warden Law in the autumn of 1996.
The site was an abandoned quarry which has always been ideal for off
road driving activities.
The original 800 meter circuit was then extended in 1999 creating one
1150 meter circuit or two shorter layouts. Floodlights were introduced
on the original circuit late in 1999 allowing evening sessions to take
place throughout the autumn and spring.
The circuit is challenging, wet or dry. It needs respect, sensible and
productive use of the throttle when laying down the power. Too much and
you spin, not enough and you're behind. This is where North east
motor sport starts.
How To Get There
The centre
lies just off the A690
Sunderland - Durham road near Ryhope.
