Making Candles in Wensley

White Rose Candles Wensley North Yorks

If you're visiting Leyburn or Aysgarth do stop off in Wensley Village and visit the White Rose Candle Workshop.  Just a short distance west of Leyburn, this is a small family business comprising Mick, Jen and Rachel White who have been making candles since 1971 and in 1978 moved to the old watermill by the waterfall in the quiet village of Wensley. Visitors may observe the various processes involved in the manufacture of candles including traditional dipping techniques and casting methods. The building housing the workshop was a 19th century water mill - the water wheel still exists and mills have been recorded on the site since 1203.

Visitors are welcome to watch the candles being made from bees wax and paraffin wax. A variety of traditional and modern methods are used including some unusual and interesting equipment designed and made by Mick himself.

The candles come in many sizes, colours, shapes and perfumes. Diameters range from ½" to 3" and lengths from 2" to 4ft.  Perfumed candles are very popular - they burn hollow, last approximately 40 hours and really do scent a room. Other candles are suitable for the dinner table, Church, flower arranging or as presents.white rose candles All are beautiful but they have been designed to be used and will burn a long time with a clear, bright light.

There is no charge to see the candles being made but it's hard to resist buying one or two at the little counter. You can also purchase the latest designs of flower rings and a comprehensive range of candle holders in glass, wood, metal, brass and pottery. These include unusual Danish and Polish designs and a stunning range of Gothic holders. The workshop is open for half term and Easter (10am - 5pm) but closed Wed & Sat. From June 1st until October 31st the workshop is open every day except Sat & Wed See The Web Site Here
