The site runs within strict guidelines that exclude the more smutty aspects of gay internet sites as well as prohibiting all advertising and pop-ups. Lifestyle-orientated gay and lesbian website - similar feel to Queercompany only it hasn't gone bust as yet. Lesbians, Bisexual Women and Safe Sex A sub-section of AVERT, a guide to safer sex for LB women. If you really want the gory low-down, including photos, on any STI or other embarrassing health issue, here's the place to look. If you don't, steer well clear.

Search out and talk to new people, discuss issues on the plethora of message boards, take part in polls and more. Takes some effort to get into, but a number of our members are regulars. Huge personals site. Popular despite a reputation for sordidness - get familiar with the 'traffic lights' code if you don't want some nasty photographic surprises.

The UK charity helping with gender issues. The world's largest transgender support group. International Foundation for Gender Education Relatively little of direct relevance to the UK, but interesting all the same. Contains newsletter, links, bookshop, etc Open to anyone, regardless of age, TG status and location, who feels that they can provide support and advice to TG youth Transgender section of the Society for Human Sexuality library Large range of interesting content including information on hormones. Mostly directs you to other places, but does contain some personal stories. A UK charity supporting those up to the age of 19 trying to cope with gender identity issues. Posters are mostly but not entirely transwomen on this large and active message boards site. Trans info on Lynn Conway's homepage Containing her version of the story of transpeople. Seems informative. Youth-oriented with personal stories, information and message boards. Large and wide-ranging site with lots of links to other resources. Mostly for transwomen, but it does contain information for men too. The International Journal of Transgenderism Lots of scholarly information - sometimes in gory detail. A large archive of radio programmes "talking about transgenderism in the first person". The site also features writings and resources. Transgender, Transsexual and Intersex History Collection of essays, incomplete but useful nonetheless. Educational website, founded on academic research, feature articles, medical and health resources.
Trans men Extremely comprehensive site, and (joy!) entirely relevant to the UK. Co-ordinated by Stephen Whittle from Press for Change. Has a Yahoo! Group which you can join from the site. Trannyfags group from Queernet For trans men who identify as gay. Transgender Forum's FtM resource list Site for people on the transmale end of the spectrum. Contains lots of very good articles and also resources.
Genderqueer, etc... Transpositive and varied site dealing with all kinds of aspects of sexuality and gender; articles and interesting message boards with quite a genderqueer presence. Boston (US)-orientated, but contains writings, news and message boards with a genderqueer flavour. The website of American genderqueer activist Emi Koyama; loads of activism resources including badges and fliers.

Website offers comprehensive local listings and events, and safer-sex information. Large LGBT organisation based in Darlington, offering a range of services. Meeting every week in Newcastle, an alternative to the commercial gay scene for gay and bisexual men aged 20 or over. The community organisation in the North East responsible for, among other things, the big Pride event held each summer in Newcastle. Darlington-based social and support group for lesbian, bisexual and transgender women. GAP (Gay Affirmative Psychotherapy) North East Based in Newcastle, offering "a wide range of counselling and support services to the gay, lesbian and bisexual community. SupportBeing Gay Is Okay!Excellent gay youth support site. Written for men, but much of this valuable and well-written guide is equally applicable to women. Sadly now mothballed, but still an excellent set of resources written by LGBT youth for LGBT youth. London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard Voluntary organisation offering 24-hour information, support and referrals for LGB people anywhere in the UK. Website includes links to switchboards in other areas. FFLAG (Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) Supporting parents and their gay, lesbian and bisexual sons and daughters. The charity supporting homeless lesbian and gay teenagers, supported this year by the LGBTA. Giving support to HIV- people with HIV+ partners.

Trans women Extensive and useful site covering all aspects of transition. Personal transition page with lots of detail. Some of the medical information is US-specific, but the site does contain a wide range of information. Gianna Israel's Gender Library Writings by a trans therapist which may be of some help Quite large site containing lots of writings. Does have rather questionable aspects including the COGIATI test, which should not be taken too seriously.
